All Aboard! Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express Stops on PS5, PS4 This October

I am not ashamed to admit that I have a soft spot for old-fashioned Agatha Christie crime stories and the Orient Express in particular which is most likely why I will probably buy it regardless of how badly it will be perceived.

Do we really need to shoehorn "sidekicks" (female or not) to iconic fictional characters for "reasons"? And here, this is so on the nose : after Joan Watson for Sherlock Holmes in Elementary, here comes Joanna Locke for Hercule Poirot...

Doesn't bode well but I'll keep an eye on it, I'm a sucker for good detective games...

@Olmaz Unfortunately neither of Poirot's literary sidekicks Captain Arthur Hastings nor Ariadne Oliver feature in the book of Murder On The Orient Express, so a "brand new sidekick" will be the reader or player's stand-in.

Honestly never liked the book. Love a lot of the other stories but find Orient Express a bit of a bore. It’s… ambitious, to say the least, to attempt to rewrite the source material and introduce new characters though.

I understand by this that this new sidekick is an equal (at least equal enough to warrant gameplay as her). Not just a side character meant to elevate Poirot, as was mainly the role of his many sidekicks.
I really wonder how they will manage Poirot's ego with him working with someone else, if this someone is close to his abilities.

I have read most of Poirot's stories, but not all : do you know of a story where he's working in tandem with another detective of equal (or at least close to equal) abilities?

@Olmaz there's Murder on the links set on a golf resort in Northern France where the local inspector doesn't like Poirot one bit and makes a bet that if Poirot doesn't solve the murder before the inspector does he must shave his moustache off.

The David Suchet ITV adaptation of it has an even more arrogant copper than Poirot and quite enjoyable like most of the ITV adaptations.

I love Poirot and Orient Express, and mystery games to boot. I'll have an eye on this, but am nervous about the contemporary update, "added twists", and sidekick.

Is this the best choice for a Poirot adaptation? Seems like this is one that is hard to forget the who in the whodunnit.

@deathaxe As much as I enjoy the books, David Suchet is cemented in my mind as Poirot. That series was a wonderful adaptation, even though it too played fast and loose with the source material on occasion. Then again, I’m pretty sure that’s the point of an adaptation. Now if there was just a Captain Hastings game where I could push X to exclaim “I say!”

@Olmaz Cards on the table has both Colonel Race and Superintendent Battle, both of whom have novels of their own.

The BBC audios are excellent, great for long car journeys when a couple of hours of dance music is just too much

In fact he was not very tall and heavy-set. He was also meticulously attired.

Now he has a jawline chiseled from granite, looks 6 foot tall and casually has his top shirt button undone lol

This sounds interesting actually. I hope it's similar to the underrated Sherlock Holmes games from Frogwares.

@Olmaz I have read about half a dozen Poirot novels. I am not aware of any other same-level detectives doing their thing, either in literary form or adaptation form. I imagine it will be closer to the old Murder On The Orient Express by The Adventure Company, then you'll likely be playing as the sidekick for basically everything and coming back to Poirot for help getting to figure it out.
