10. DIRT 5 (PS5)
DIRT 5 comes from a Codemasters team made up of many Evolution Studios alumni, giving this off-road racer a slight MotorStorm flavour. The festival vibes are alive and well here, with colourful presentation and a great soundtrack providing the background for a varied and fun racing calendar. Unlike its DiRT Rally cousins, this game is unabashedly arcadey, putting the emphasis on sliding sideways through the mud, across the ice, and into clouds of dust. An unintrusive storyline featuring characters voiced by Nolan North and Troy Baker carries you through the single player, while a level editor and some neat multiplayer modes are waiting for you too. A slick, well presented racing game with real energy.
9. Hot Wheels Unleashed (PS5)
If you've ever owned a toy car or two, Hot Wheels Unleashed will hold some appeal. Coming from Milestone, the studio known for its motorbike racing titles like MotoGP and RIDE, this game sees the Italian team go in a brand new direction. This is a colourful arcade racer, pitting those die-cast vehicles against each other on that famous bright orange track across various settings. The handling is excellent and provides some surprisingly competitive and gratifying racing, while the courses are treacherous, winding things that see you driving on the ceiling and through the air. The game is impressively robust too, with a big campaign, split-screen and online multiplayer, a full track editor, and hundreds of cars to collect. If you're a fan of Hot Wheels, or just arcade racing games generally, this is worth checking out.
8. WRC 10 (PS5)
There are a few strong options on PS5 for rally fans, but if you're looking for the genuine article, WRC 10 is where it's at. This is the latest officially licensed rally racer, featuring the courses, cars, and drivers you recognise from the real motorsport. Importantly, though, the game itself is rollicking good fun. It really captures the danger and thrill of screaming through narrow tracks, always a hair's breadth from disaster. An in-depth career mode will keep you going for a long time, and it's supplemented with single rallies, online play, and historical events. Excellent support of DualSense's features is the cherry on top of a very tasty, messy cake.
7. Wreckfest (PS5)
Few things are more fun than crashing cars: Sony learned that in 1995 with Destruction Derby, a smashmouth PS1 racer that became a cult classic on account of its reckless disregard for motorsport safety. Fast forward to the present day and Wreckfest is a modern reimagining of Psygnosis’s iconic T-bone-‘em-up. Running at 60 frames-per-second, this is far more responsive than its PS4 predecessor, and regular content updates have made the scale of the package anything but a write-off.
6. WRC 9 (PS5)
Released in time for the PS5's launch, WRC 9 is a rock solid racing sim. This officially licensed rally racer gives the DIRT Rally series a run for its money. With all the real world routes and vehicles, an in-depth career mode, and thrilling driving, this will have any racing fan on the edge of their seat. It excels on Sony's new console thanks to excellent DualSense support; you'll feel every bump in the road with the haptic feedback, and the triggers simulate the gas and brake pedals wonderfully. There are also lots of ways to play, including online championships.

Obviously GT7 is at number 1, but I do like Dirt 5, Wreckfest and Grid Legends
Always going to be 1 winner here and rightly so it is a superb game.
I really must give Wreckfest a go it looks like great fun and it is in my library from PS+ but never got around to it!

Even though its not a ps5 game my personal fave is drive club..i really like dirt 5 and i really like hot wheels unleashed as well..wreckfest is really good too but even though i've only played gran turismo on my mates ps5 for about an hour i can see that being a contender to knock the mighty drive club off my number 1 spot..

Just tried the racing wheel today with wreckfast, dirt 5 and dirt rally 2. IT is really not easy using it. Maybe I don't have a proper chair. Better to just use the controller.

Seriously though, everyone needs to experience ACC with a wheel. It is a truly stellar, white knuckle, heart pounding experience. The force feedback detail is incredible.
@GoodGame Playing GT7 — or any other sim-style driving game — with a wheel & pedals takes the immersion to a higher level. If budget and space permits, I highly recommend.

I saw the headline and came on here to check if Assetocorsa Competizione (ACC) got a mention.
I love racing games of all types but ACC is an unbelievable experience (just the sound alone is worth a mention).
However, I still play Driveclub VR imagining what a fully licensed F1 game in VR would be like.
@Northern_munkey Drive Club was one of my first PS5 games along with Star Wars Battlefront and wow what a racing game! I still play on PS5 and have cars to unlock

I imagine you are right. Proper steering has completely changed the game for me and I discovered it via trying gyro steering in the options. They've done an incredible job with this and once you've had a couple of races and got your brain tuned in the level of control of your vehicle is hugely improved.
I can only imagine having more control via pedals is also liberating!
How on earth in WRC10 as low as it is. 1, its better than WRC9 and 2, its just a bloody good racing game. No ACC? This list cant be real? As stated above the sound is by far the best out of anything on ps5. The throaty, aggressive tones of the engines, the marbles and debris bouncing off the chassis, the squeaks and clunks of a stripped out interior... Its just incredible!! Tough racer tho.
For me its GT7, WRC10, ACC and F1 that take the top spots for me. I just couldnt get in to wreckfest although, i can see how people rate it so high.

@Luigia yeah for certain WRC 10 should be higher than 9. I played both and 10 is for sure more finely tuned and adjusted to perfection. Less visual glitches too!

I think the top 2 here are spot on, GT7 is amazing with great graphics and handling of all different types of cars and F1 2021 is just a joy to blast around those tracks at crazy speeds. I've recently got the G29 wheel as well so now they're both even more fun to play amd just pure driving heaven. Dirt 5 is another standout for me with its more arcadey driving style that feels like what Sega Rally may well be if it was still around

GT7 deservedly at number 1 and Wreckfest also is a great title, it’s a shame they can’t do more sim titles on the powerful ps5, most of these are very samey or arcadey at best

How much better is GT7 better than GT Sport? I have both, but I am playing GT Sport rn bc I am new to Sony eco system. I wanted to try out the series first before I shelled out $70. After a few hours, I realized that tho I am not very good, I enjoy the style of play a lot, so I went ahead and got GT7 bc it was on sale. Not loading it now bc of space on HD and I want to finish Sport.
I find it hard to agree on this list (GT7's single player is way too short and Wreckfest is just a mess), but I'm happy WRC9 gets the recognition it deserves. Still the best use of the dual sense I've seen/felt so far.

I’ve played every one of these for many hours and I guess i would say GT7 is in the right spot. I find myself getting board with it really quickly. But it is good. I had a ton of fun with Dirt 5, WRC 9 and F1 ‘21. As fun as all of these can be. They just lack something that I cant quite explain. I had more fun with Drive Club on PS4 last gen than ive had with any of these. The last GT game I truly loved was 5 on PS3. And I can still go back to Ridge Racer Type 4 on PS1 and have as much fun or more than with any of these. I think Im just old.
Number 1 for me is project cars 2.... Then WRC10.... Then isle of man TT 2( do bike games count?)... I found the actual driving in previous GT games abit sterile although I don't own gt7 ... Will do tho when I get a ps5.... Dirt5 and wreckfest are good fun for awhile but didn't hold my attention long...
Is this an old list? Or are for instance F1 22 and WRC Generations not as good as their predecessors?
@Darude84 Exsctly the 2 games i was thinking of when i didnt see them on the list. I think it was revised when GT7 released and its just been bumped. WRC G is deffo better than 9 and 10.

@Darude84 If you liked 9 will certainly like WRCG. I didnt have 9 but i did have 10 and loved it and i still consider G to be better. More of the same just tidied uo a bit with a few more features etc. Its a pretty cheap game too, even at launch it was only retailing at £35.
With Need for Speed Unbound coming out after this list was created, I wonder if you think it's worthy of making the list?
So much depends on whether you value realism or arcade-style racing - I have yet to try Gran Turismo 7, but I suspect I'll find it too realistic to really be what I enjoy the most. I don't necessarily want over-the-top arcade-style racing, but ultra-realistic racing can actually feel either boring or overly stressful, as one little mistake can be unrecoverable.
I burned out on Hot Wheels pretty fast - it's more about collecting boost than just about anything else.
In terms of amount of time played, GT7 isn't my top racing game..
Nice graphics are one thing.
Realism is another, which was spoilt by me by the BMW mini being wildly inaccurate, including different interior depending on camera chosen, which makes no sense at all. (If you don't understand what I mean, then you haven't owned and driven the early minis like I have) Given the car I know inside out is wrong, that kind of makes me think that maybe the other cars aren't exactly correct, and that the entire appeal, right? And so that was no longer a draw for me..
Then there is the needless repetition for cars that you won't use just for trophies and completionist same, and the forced FOMO of limited time cars. Scummy behaviour..
