PS1 FPS Star Wars: Dark Forces Returns on PS5, PS4 in 2023

Like many classics I've got the original on PC and revisit it at least once every year. I'm very tempted to pick it up again for console - if the price is right of course.

I love the fact that all of these old games are coming back. It's why I subbed to Premium although less said about that the better.

Fookin yissss. This game was my childhood. I booted it up the other day and was surprised at just how well it holds up. I'm all for buying it again on PS ❤️

£10 or less is the sweet spot. Anything more and I'll play the waiting game.

I'd love Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II to get a modern re-release that game was awesome

While I already have them all, (boxed originals no less as well as Steam versions!), a compete revamped package would be awesome. If this does well enough we might be lucky enough to see the rest revisited.

@Robinsad extended Canon, especially as the first Misson was to steal the death star plans if my memory is correct.

Of course that was done in rogue one.

I did like the mechanic where stormtroopers would respond so no just clearing the level out.

Will be good to actually play this - years ago, I bought the PS1 download version to play on my PS3 but it never worked; it starts up but then hangs at the intro.
No chance of a refund as Sony's view is that once you download it you have agreed to the terms & no refunds issued

Really liked this one, played through this, Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith a year or two ago.

@Kidfried Depends. It's basically DOOM in Star Wars clothing, with all the positives and negatives you can imagine from such a summary. At its best, the action is fast, fluid and fun. Weapons feel punchy, and the atmosphere is peak pre-prequel Star Wars (which I gather is quite popular with the uncultured masses).

But, on the flipside, the level design can get cramped and confusing, leading to quite a few frustrating moments of aimless wandering (although we're blessed to be living in the age of the online walkthrough, so getting stuck someplace isn't the game-ending nightmare it used to be). A lot of its missions boil down to generic keycard hunts, and there's some real wonky platforming in parts, too. The difficulty curve isn't too steep, but it's a product of its time, so expect a few tough encounters (mostly caused by enemies jumping out at you from behind false walls).

The story's bare-bones, and all the remastering in the world won't help its bland, identikit corridors and external environments. Its initial novelty has long since expired, but fans of retro shooters should check it out regardless, as a piece of history if nothing else (as I believe it was the first FPS to include Y-axis aiming).

Otherwise, if the Star Wars branding didn't instantly reel you in, you're probably safe to stick with Quake or Turok whenever you wanna scratch that throwback itch.

Now we need the excellent Nightdive update of Blood on consoles, then they should work on Blood 2 and Shogo. Then Requiem and Killing Time by 3D0 studios .

And for god's sake release them all physical on regular retail not through bloody limited immensely slow and hugely expensive run games !
