Today I beat Super Castlevania 4! As a HUGE Castlevania fan (Castlevania is my favorite franchise) I have trouble beating the Classicvanias as they are really hard for me, but I decided to push it trough! I've beaten Castlevania 1 and now this!

The feeling is the same when I beat the Soulsborne series

I am sure that I will continue with either Castlevania III Dracula's Curse or Castlevania Bloodlines.

Made a start on Splinter Cell: Blacklist on the PS3 today… it’s my first ever Splinter Cell! Absolutely loving it so far… can’t believe this series passed me by.

@colonelkilgore Great stuff, one of my favourite games from the PS3 era and a very enjoyable platinum, well except for the MP stuff.
I can't believe that Ubisoft haven't remastered this or Vegas Rainbow six. My Xbox has a few last gen games on it, Dark Souls (before Bamco announced the remaster) and Vegas rainbow six, can't beat terrorist hunts...every FPS game should have them.
PS. If you like your stealth then I recommend Styx shards of darkness, just over two quid in current sale.

@CaptD I do like quite like stealth games, so I’ll take a look into Styx 👍

@RogerRoger I can see what you mean by that. Although while it was a fun idea going for multiple endings, the game was so poorly received with all the vehicles and guns, that Sega completely missed the point in their next mainline game (which was Sonic 06 no less). The fun thing about that era of Sonic games is that you could replace every human in the games with Sonic The Comic-style anthropomorphic animals, and it wouldn't make any difference! Which is another way of saying humans are useless in the Sonic Universe and should be eliminated at all costs! Eggman eventually has to build robot friends as his sidekicks because he can't find a Snively or Grimer in the main universe, apparently. I like Agent Stone from the movies myself.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it released on Windows Phone first, for the two people who ever used one. I actually had a Windows Phone myself, before realising it had zero apps and very little beyond that. I passively mobile game. Once a day I drop in on Pokemon Masters, and when I'm on holiday I load up Genshin Impact for the dailies. Technically I have all the old Sega games on it as well, but they've never been touched.

Oh don't worry, I've played every game near enough to completion, save for Sonic Frontiers and The Murder, so spoilers won't bother me. I'll wait until the end of this journey though.

Don't worry, I've forgotten as many games as I've played over the years, Sonic or otherwise. Right now, however, I'm loving my old PS2 games in all their vaseline-smeared glory! For Sonic Riders, the difficulty curve is a vertical line, but once you get the hang of it, you're all good. Cornering is not like Wipeout, where you hold the brakes to drift, but rather like Mario Kart where you slide, then let go of the brake to get a big boost. Plus, it has the best cutscenes in the series NSFW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7DzDicQyxB0 😜

@RogerRoger Sonic Riders finished, enjoyed, and all wrapped up with a neat bow. Perhaps it should be renamed Shortcut Hunting Simulator, because there's no "going faster than everybody else" in that game, just ways of being able to overtake them. Game doesn't have a difficulty curve, but rather a difficulty wall! Regardless, it was one of the better games I've played during this marathon. Even if half the characters in it are weirdly aggressive. Knuckles appears to have roid rage that seems to have manifested in his Sonic Boom appearance!

Now here's a quandary I have about playing the next game on the list. I was so focussed on playing the Vaseline-enhanced PS2 games (my TV really can't handle legacy systems!), that I did in fact neglect to play Sonic Rush (aka the first game featuring Blaze The Cat), which released before Sonic Riders did. Furthermore, there were actually almost half a dozen Sonic games between Sonic Riders and Zero Gravity - 06, Rivals, Secret Rings, Rush Adventure and Rivals 2. And within a year Chronicles, Unleashed and Black Knight all came out. Granted, I have major difficulty playing the Wii games in that a) I don't possess the games, and b) the Wii in our house is not mine to play with. Which leaves me with 06, which I won't be playing*, the two Rush games and the two Rivals games, as well as Riders Zero Gravity. I may just play that one, not necessarily to "get it out of the way", but rather finish up with a system, and move on to the PSP and 2DS as separate things.

*Fun fact: (spoilers for a 17-year old game nobody cares about) The events of Sonic 06 mean that the events of Sonic 06 did not happen. Time travel shenanigans and all that, but the ending means that Sonic never had any reason to visit Soleanna, and swap saliva and rabies with Princess Elise.
Unfun fact: Sonic 06 is now older than Sonic 1 was when 06 was made. Damn I feel old!

Started playing Tokyo Xanadu eX+ today. After finishing all my ongoing games, I decided to start up a JRPG as I was in the mood for one. And what better one than Falcom's own take on the Persona formula mixed with real-time combat. I only played it for a short while since I wanted to test it on my Vita. I'm actually playing the game through PS4 Remote Play and it works wonderfully, just like when I played through Steins;Gate 0 a while back. Not to mention that this game was originally a Vita title, so the control scheme works great on the Vita. I genuinely cannot wait to sink my teeth into this game!

Lego Rock Band is bizarre. Song list is fairly rubbish, a lot of what was popular in the late 00s aka poppy emo rock. Queen being playable is fairly random and playing We Will Rock You on guitar was basically carpal tunnel simulator.

Plumbing’s just Lego innit. Water Lego.

@RogerRoger And that is all of the PS2 games complete, minus Sonic Unleashed and Sega Superstars Tennis as I have those on the PS3. I enjoyed Sonic Riders 2, with it's epic music and robots ripped right out of a Portal game. Found it easier than the first as well. I can see why you hang your hat on them. My favourite Sonic is forever going to be the vanilla version of Sonic 3, so this is your thing, and you're all the better for it. Next up is Sonic Rush, which features the first appearance of Blaze The Cat, another kinda-extra terrestrial character who then appears in the bad future in Sonic 06 with basically zero explanation. I guess unlike the Babylon Rogues, she actually stuck around.

@LtSarge I am the last demographic you'd ever see playing that game, but I absolutely loved it! Saw it on PlayStation Now a few years ago, and figured that since I was being an amateur weeb at the time, I'd download it. When I finally got the platinum after beating it like 3 separate times, I'd put about 160 hours into it, and I'd still happily play it again!

Vampire Survivors on Switch. I'm on holiday, and this seemed like the perfect getaway game. It's very addictive and it's fun. I already got the 4 euro I payed out of it.

Why it was named Game of the Year by so many puzzles me a little bit, though. Maybe there is something I am missing here?

@BeerIsAwesome Yeah I'm 5 hours in and it's so much fun! The real-time combat is so satisfying, just like with the Ys games, and the world-building/social aspect is fantastic, just like with the Trails of Cold Steel games. Literally the best of both franchises in one!

I hooked up the old Wii tonight and me and the fam played some wii sports. Even all these years later its easy to see why this console sold gangbusters. My daughter thought the tennis doubles was hilarious. I might be heading to a CEX near me for wii sports resort tomorrow 🙈

@LtSarge The gameplay isn't hugely different between the vanilla version and the eX+ version, but the latter has extra post-chapter slice of life moments and an additional chapter at the end. It also has better translation than the original (I'd say about 95% perfect), so if you're playing the eX+ version, you're playing the better version of the game anyway.

I can't say that I'm the biggest expert on Ys or Trails, but this game just happened to hit me right in the sweet spot. Glad you're enjoying it!

Been playing Grandia HD on Switch for the past two weeks, still can't believe it wasn't released on PS4 because the PS4 has 4K, such BS!
